Patriarchale zegens en de tempelinwijding maken duidelijk dat 'n ieder
van ons een zending te vervullen heeft op aarde. We hebben allen geestelijke
gaven ontvangen die we ten dienste van anderen zouden moeten gebruiken
(LV 46:11-12). Als discipelen van Christus
ontvingen we de belofte dat we wondervolle werken zullen kunnen doen (LV
84:64-66). Door de tempel te bezoeken worden we deelgenoot aan
de hemelse macht die ons uitrust om in de wereld uit te gaan en het werk
te doen dat God ons heeft toegewezen (LV 38:32-33;
109:22-23). Een ieder kan een unieke bijdrage leveren; een pasklare
roeping op basis van eigen mogelijkheden en talenten.
Volgens de HLD geloofstraditie werd ons door God een aardse zending toegemeten
zelfs voordat we werden geboren. Als geesten in het voorbestaan werden
we ter voorbereiding op onze zending onderricht en vervolgens naar de
aarde gezonden op een tijdstip en naar een plaats door de voorzienigheid
bepaald (LV 138:55-56; Abraham 3:22-23). Op
ons levenspad wordt ons d.m.v. de leiding van de Geest duidelijk gemaakt
welke zending ons werd toebedeeld.
Anderzijds kan onze zending op aarde ook tijdens ons leven bepaald worden
in een dialoog met God aangaande onze dromen en verlangens. HLD verhalen
over de Drie Nephieten en over Johannes de Openbaarder verhalen hoe Christus
die individuen op verschillende zendingen riep, al naar gelang hun verlangens
en zijn inzicht wat hen vreugde zou verschaffen (3
Nephi 28; LV 7). Op dezelfde manier belooft Christus zijn discipelen
in deze laatste dagen dat hij door hen veel goeds tot stand zal laten
brengen, naar mate waarin we dat van hem verlangen (LV
6:8; Moroni 7:26).
